A Green Thumbs-Up: Franklin and Green’s Grow Together
When businesses invest their time, resources, and care into our local schools, the whole community benefits. - Jill Parsons, CEO, The Chamber of Commerce of the MId-Ohio Valley
Franklin Elementary Center has found a strong new ally in Green’s Supply Depot as part of the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley’s Partner In Education program. The collaboration is already making an impact through school beautification, supply donations, and support for student incentive programs—demonstrating the power of business-school partnerships in strengthening the community.
Franklin Elementary, located on Division Street Extension in Parkersburg, serves more than 260 students in Pre-K through fifth grade. With a renewed focus on fostering achievement and community engagement, the school welcomed Green’s Supply Depot as a Partner In Education this fall.
Ryan McIntyre, Principal of Franklin Elementary, recognized a perfect partnership opportunity with Green's:
“I am thrilled at their quick call to action when I mentioned our need for school beautification, supplies, and assistance with our attendance/positive behavior events. My hope is that our partnership will help our community by improving the educational initiatives and environment to foster the best achievement outcomes for our students.”
Green’s Supply Depot is the Parkersburg extension of the family-owned Green’s Feed & Seed, a company with deep roots in West Virginia agriculture, home improvement, and outdoor living. With locations across the state, the Green’s family of businesses has long emphasized community support as a core value.
Haylee Proffitt, Marketing Director for Green's Feed & Seed, recognized the school, student, and community benefits that would come from a partnership with Franklin Elementary:
“At Green’s, we believe being locally and family-owned means taking responsibility for more than just doing business—it means being a true neighbor. Partnering with Franklin Elementary and supporting Principal McIntyre’s vision reflects our commitment to the future of Parkersburg, because investing in the education of our youth is investing in the strength of our community. We’re excited to see this partnership grow, and we look forward to building lasting connections that benefit students, families, and the community we’re proud to call home.”
The partnership has already borne fruit, with Green’s staff donating service hours and landscaping materials to improve the playground and grounds at Franklin. These visible improvements are matched by the deeper impact of community involvement in student achievement.
Jill Parsons, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley, echoed the focus on the community benefits:
“The Chamber of Commerce is proud to facilitate meaningful connections like the one between Franklin Elementary and Green’s Supply Depot. When businesses invest their time, resources, and care into our local schools, the whole community benefits. This is what the Partner In Education program is all about.”
